HAIKU

We used to have a dog named Bernie.  My mom found him in the highway.  I liked him a lot.  I grew to love him.  He died when I was 8.  I was really upset.  My mom talked to me about it to make me feel better but I still felt sad.  So she suggested I write a poem.  She helped me by asking me questions about what kind of dog Bernie was and how I loved him and how he made me feel.  After I wrote random words down about him, I put the words together to make a haiku. This is the definition of a haiku:
  1. a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world.
This is my haiku about Bernie- 
Sweet black dog chase bikes run to sunny spot lie down his head on my knee

My mom submitted my poem to the Circle Gazette which is a newspaper written and published by kids, especially homeschooled kids.  This is the link.  It's on page
