I did go to public school in Kindergarten and Third Grade. I was homeschooled until after third grade then we started unschooling under the umbrella school Florida Unschoolers.
Most people are familiar with homeschooling but not so much for unschooling. Unschooling is a type of homeschooling but with more freedom. Unschoolers believe a kid can learn from the world around them, everyday with every experience. Unschooling parents are not teachers but guides to their kids. They provide a life that give a kid a lot of opportunities to learn. They also allow kids freedom to follow their interests, projects, ideas for as long as they want.
I do like the freedom that unschooling gives me. I have been able to follow my own interests for a long time. The thing I don't like is that its hard to make friends because you have to go out and look for friends. I do have a few good online friends and I have met two in person. I am going to meet more of them in a few weeks when my family and I go to the Unschooling Waterpark Gathering in Sandusky OH. I am excited to go on this trip.
Another thing unschooling has given me is traveling with my dad. I have traveled to New York, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C, New Jersey, Caribbean and to Mexico three times and twice to Cuba. We plan on taking many more trips in the future.
Now I am ready to attend school again and will be enrolling to high school. A few of my local friends will go there too so I will start knowing some people. I am excited to start this new part of my education.
